Amazon’s little mistakes…

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Yesterday I receive an email from amazon, saying that someone “had purchased a gift from our Baby Registry”.
The email was sent to me and my wife, when I saw it, I checked that it was not the product of Phishing, went to the site, and indeed there was a baby registry to our names, and I was like… “wtf?”

Then I had a conversation with my wife, asking her if she was pregnant, for like 5 minutes I didn’t believe her, then it was all good, but it left me wondering things about how ready I’d be for a baby.

Today, Amazon.com writes:

Greetings from Amazon.com.

We’re contacting you about the e-mail message we mistakenly sent to
you indicating that an item was purchased from your baby registry;
this message was sent to you in error. We intended to send you an
e-mail regarding your Amazon Wedding Registry, but the text of the
message was incorrect. Please watch for a message regarding your
Amazon Wedding Registry in the next day or two.

We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We are looking
into this matter and we are taking steps to prevent this from
happening again.

We value your business and look forward to seeing you again soon at
Amazon.com.

Sincerely,

Customer Service Department
Amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com

Please note: this e-mail was sent from a notification-only address
that cannot accept incoming e-mail. Please do not reply to this
message.

Funny how a reliable service can make a stupid mistake that even though it was just an email, is so meaningful, and in whatever the case, it could cause either surprise or a big dissapointment.

We even wondered if it was because we’ve been married for almost a year, that amazon was getting into pregnancy prediction spamming algorithms.

Good thing we’re not trying with doctors and stuff to have a baby, I guess it would’ve been a lot worse.

This is a cap sent as a gift from our friends at OyeEsto.com, the first and most comprehensive podcast directory of Venezuela. There are rumors they will be expanding to other countries, it would only make sense, they have something pretty good there, and thanks to them the wedoit4you.com podcast gets lots of Venezuelan listeners.

Gubatron’s Multitask Secret

Originally uploaded by Gubatron.

I finally decided to let the world know what’s my secret. Everybody keeps asking me how I manage to do so much, how do I have time. When Dolly was cloned, I became obsessive with the subject and did a lot of research on companies doing cloning, I managed to volunteer to be one of the first humans to be cloned, now I get to podcast, code for mybloop, code for frostwire, read, do business, master the drums and the guitar on Rockband and Guitar Hero while I’m my other clone is at work. The real me… you’ll never guess where it is.

[VIDEO] Welcome my son - Made in Venezuela

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

This short film based on Pink Floyd’s song is a graduate thesis project brewed out of the most prestigious communications school of Venezuela at UCAB, which also happens to be my alma matter.

Venezuelan talent, can’t wait to see more of these talented team, I think they have what it takes to be the latin american Wachoskies. Keep dreaming, keep working for those dreams, and put no limit to your dreams, that’s my humble advice.

I think this goes to show how technology is leveling the field for talented people, this was done (according to the credits) with only 4 people and lots of work. I would speculate and say this was done using Final Cut Pro, After Effects, and on the 3D animation side I’m not gonna make any guesses, it’d be awesome if it was done using Blender3d, perhaps the creators will come and comment on this post about the making. I talked to Viviana and she said they’re producing a DVD with a making of, and producer’s comments audio on top of the video.
